Sunday Talks

Ever have that dream when you were a kid where you show up at school naked or that there's a huge test that you didn't study for? Well, I've been having those kinds of dreams all week - panicked that I was in some way not prepared.

I was asked two weeks ago to give a talk on "Come unto me" and to use Elder Holland's talk "Broken Things to Mend". This past week I've just been having nightmares. I'd show up to church in my shorts and t-shirt. Or my parent's were sitting in the crowd and my dad would stand up and point his finger and laugh at me. I in return would yell, at the podium, for him to sit down and be quiet.

Finally by Saturday I was able to hide away in my room and gather my thoughts together and get something down on paper without disruptions. I felt much better and not so panicked that I'd show up without a talk.

I think that no matter how many times I get up to speak I get nervous- maybe that's a good thing- I rely on the spirit more for help and guidance. I think overall things went well, and it will be another two years or so before I need to speak again.

LOST

As many of you know, one of my favorite shows on TV is Lost. It's one that I faithfully watch. I'm totally into the whole mystery of the island- what is the black smoke, who is Jacob, how can Locke walk, will Ben ever blink???? The season finale last night had a nice little twist that I didn't see coming, I was quite shocked. And RIP Charlie, so sad that you had to go, we'll miss you little hobbit. Now I have to wait until Feb. to find out what happens next!!

Anyone else watch it? What did you think?

A Bunch of Bull

Today we went to a family picnic that Todd's work put on. There was a bounce house, obstacle course, a climbing wall, and a mechanical bull. We had such a fun time. They had a couple contests- who could do the obstacle course the fastest (Todd loved that!) and who could stay on the bull the longest. My longest time was 21 seconds. Todd won a gift card with his record time at 33 seconds! The trick - hang on tight and don't fall off :). We have some good war wounds from our adventures.

Here are our warm-up rides before the contest. It's pretty dang hard to hold on once that bull gets moving but, oh what fun!

Ode to Moms

Mother's Day- I know I'm posting late, it's what I do - how to do express enough gratitude to the woman who raised you and helped make you into the person you are today because of them? I never really knew how much my mom did for me until I became a parent myself, all the sacrifices, hard work, and dedication that she devoted to the family. I'm so lucky to have her a part of my life as not only my mom but as my friend. I am also so lucky to have a wonderful mother-in-law who raised Todd to be such a great dad and husband and is a friend to me.

And a special thanks to my kids who make me a mom and make me want to be so much better than I am. I love them with all my heart. Abby had said out of the blue the other day, "I love you mom." I asked her why she said it, "to make you happy." Melt my heart. Hearing those words make everything worth it.

Joy School

Abby just finished her first year of "school". I joined four other moms with kids close to Abby's age and we set up a pre-pre-school for our kids. Classes were every Monday and Thursday and we alternated weeks in teaching. Abby loved it! She learned her colors, shapes, letters, and made lots of fun crafts. She learned so much from her friends and their moms. It was such a wonderful experience for her. Thank you to our friends who included us into this little group!

Who's Awesome?

Todd likes to ask all the kids "Who's the man? Who's awesome?" and he teaches them the answer too- "Todd!" or for our kids it's - "DAD!"

My New Hat

Abby wanted to go to the bathroom all by herself. I heard her laughing in the bathroom so I went to check out what was so funny. She said, "look mom, my hat!" Yep, that's her underwear on her head.

Angle of Repose

For April book club we read "Angle of Repose" by Wallace Stegner. It was 600 pages and I thought I'd never get it finished. It was really hard for me to get into it but it was well worth it. The last couple hundred pages, I couldn't put it down. It was a fabulous story that I highly recommend. It was a great look at a marriage and commitment told from a story in a story. The settings were the 1870's and the 1970's. By the end you will think about your marriage and relationship with your spouse. Definitely a book for any home library.

Our little boy

A couple weeks ago I went out for a walk with the girls to visit some friends. Kaitlyn had a blow out and I didn't have a change of clothes. We borrowed an outfit from little Evan. Take away all the pink and Kaitlyn could pass as a little boy.

Crawling

My life has changed. Kaitlyn started crawling about three weeks ago- backwards at first but she's really moving now! Here's a little video when she was starting out.

Migraine Storms

I had another one of my bad migraines. It came on in the afternoon and I thought that if I'd nap it would go away. No such luck. Abby woke up from her nap as soon as I put Kaitlyn down. I told her I wasn't feeling well and laid down on the couch. What a great kid, she played quietly with her Polly Pockets for an hour.

We were going to have dinner with the Smith's who live four houses down and I thought I was feeling okay. I ended up hanging out on the couch and Jenn just told me to leave the kids and go home and sleep- so I did. I was asleep for about 30 minutes when I woke up the the tornado sirens going off. Didn't know the weather was going to get bad today. I grabbed a bottle and can of formula and ran to Jenn's house in my bare feet wondering why the sirens were going off. It was just sprinkling and the wind wasn't strong. That all changed as soon as I walked in the house. I can't remember the last time I saw rain like that! Wind was later recorded at 100 MPH nearby. We stayed in the closet area for about an hour and then when everything seemed better, Jenn helped me run the kids back home. Oh the weather...
